People don’t care any more. People think misspellings on-line are funny and cool and therefore keep them going. Its all a fad dear.

Because the class sizes are too large.

I believe it is because parents do not care anymore. Also, the types of communication we use these days do not require as many written skills as previously required. We have the telephone, so letters are rarely written. We have the television, so few read a newspaper.

May be it is because people do not consider English language as vital in their day to day activities so they do not pay much attention to it.

I am an English Grammar and Conversational English teacher in an international school and I noticed that most of my students are not able to express themselves fluently in English at the start of the semester.

Well if you are referring to this site it might be because not everyone here is a native English speaker. This might be their 2,3 or 4th language. If you are just referring in the country you are in it might just be the school systems and student to teacher ratio’s.

Majority..this usually happen to teenagers. Why? Because..1.SMS language…2.They prefer magazines than storybooks or newspaper…3.They Choose MTV over News…4.They like to create their own words to make it cooler or sounds awesome….5.They think talking in english is good enough and spelling??? I dont think that they care so much about that…

I completed high school at the very beginning of the 60’s.

Traveling quite a bit after entering the working world, I noticed with surprise that a rather large percentage of people did not complete high school. And among those who did receive a high school diploma, there were vast differences. States like MS, AL, TX extremely inferior to AK, NY for example.

Since then, and while continually traveling within the USA, I have seen reading and composition skills deteriorate even further, and the absolute worst is found in some urban areas like Washington DC and Detroit.

The chief cause appears to be far, far less reading than was typical years ago. I think more TV watching and many other distractions which did not exist prior to 1975 are responsible.

I grew into the ‘Information Age’ rather than being born in it. The young people today have my sympathy because there is colossal information overload now, and the absolutely necessary core essentials are lost almost completely in the stupendous mountains of garbage.

For the young people who are feeling confused and lost, I have three great recommendations and one piece of advice:

    1. The New Testament (excluding the last book)
    — pay attention to the red letter words.
    2. Watch more Public TV and less Simpsons
    3. THE URANTIA BOOK — a biggie, available in paperback, the biggest single explanation of how everything got here, who did it and when, and where it is all going, including your own place in all this. And you will discover what unimpeachable and ultra-reliable really mean. Available in other languages, too.

Piece of advice: God is real and He will save this planet along with every worthy person. If you are trying, you are worthy. Mercy provided, perfection not expected — but you need to aim for it. Yes, many others will not. But they will receive a different portion….

People are in a hurry, and get out of practice by using slang, shorthand, and abbreviations on internet, IM, etc

now a days people are so distracted with so many things in liofe that they dont even bother. children instead of reading are playing thier playstations and xbox. there are not enough people pushing us to become more educated.we tend to procastinate and just hope for the best without working for it.

Lazyness, its easier to communicate in abreviations and emoticons, I hate the chatrooms, they are full of them. Lack of education is also a big issue here. And not all people are native English speaking so that is also one other thing why they might experience more difficulties in writing or speaking properly. Also time, everything has to be done in a certain timespan that we don’t take the time anymore to teach properly. Or even have the time for that matter. Some classrooms are overcrowded as well, how can a teacher do his, her job well if they don’t have the time or means to do so.Time is money.
Unfortunately this isn’t only happening with the English language, it something that affects a lot of languages.
Is the priority of speaking and writing well still there.

Let me see if I can phrase this correctly:
i7 B <()Z th3y R L337, or simply way 2 used to IM. Assuming you mean, why do native speakers/users of English frequently fail to use appropriate grammar and spelling.

Maybe because there are so many foreigners invading english speaking countries that our language is getting confused and people are just giving up.
